Yangervis Solarte suffered a terrible loss this weekend, but his teammates made sure to let him know they’re thinking of him.

The San Diego Padres infielder’s wife, Yuliette, died Saturday from complications from her battle with cancer. Solarte posted about it on social media with a heartbreaking tribute.

The caption roughly translates to, “It’s difficult knowing that you won’t be by my side for things in life, but if there’s something you taught me, it’s to look at life from another point of view, and I want you to know that wherever you are, I will always love you. God take care of you like you took care of us. I love you.”

Solarte left the Padres on Friday to be with Yuliette and his three daughters before her death, and he hopes to return to the team before the season ends. But until then, his teammates are using his home run celebration, which is sort of a sideways clap, as infielder Adam Rosales did Sunday against the Colorado Rockies.

It’s a simple way to show Solarte his teammates care while there’s not much else they can do.
