The LeBron James to Philadelphia 76ers noise has gotten some traction in wake of the three billboards in Cleveland asking James to “Trust the Process”, and it’s only going to get louder after this next report.
James, who has the option to opt out of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers at the end of the season, will be the most sought-after free agent this offseason. While it has been speculated that James could head west to either the Los Angeles Lakers or Houston Rockets, the 76ers have been an under-the-radar option along with the Miami Heat.
But the 76ers aren’t under the radar anymore.
NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Alaa Abdelnaby said Tuesday on “Philly Sports Talk” that King James was in the City of Brotherly Love over the All-Star break to check out schools, presumably for his kids.
“I’ve told this to a few other people, and I have no problem saying this, my brother lives in the Philadelphia area and he told me that LeBron, last week through a superintendent, was in the area checking out some private schools during the All-Star break,” Abdelnaby said.
The 76ers are an intriguing option for James, as they boast a talented young roster anchored by Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. And if 2017 No. 1 pick Markelle Fultz can recover from his shoulder ailment, Philly would have the weapons to place alongside James to win a title.
Staying in the Eastern Conference would be a wise decision. Whatever team James chooses to sign with instantly would become an NBA Finals favorite in the East, and he would not have to go through the Golden State Warriors to get to the championship round.
