How Bruins’ Bruce Cassidy Felt About Jeremy Swayman’s Return To Net

'I though Swayman was fine'

The Boston Bruins were not able to clinch a playoff spot on Tuesday, losing to the St. Louis Blues 4-2. But Jeremy Swayman got his groove back, as far as head coach Bruce Cassidy is concerned.

Jeremy Swayman was in the net for the first time since April 5, having sat two games in favor of Linus Ullmark. The second-year pro had been going through the first rough stretch of his career, having allowed four goals in that April 5 loss to the Detroit Red Wings to bring his total to 12 goals allowed across three games.

“I’m a lot more confident,” Swayman said after the game, as seen on team-provided video. “I thought we were seeing it well. Defense in front of me was doing a good job. Good to see a lot of rubber in the first period as well.”

Despite the loss, in which Swayman saved 26 shots on 30 attempts, Cassidy liked what he saw.

“His game was good, the goals, some of them he had no chance,” Cassidy said via a team-provided video. “…I thought Swayman was fine,” Cassidy said. “Again, the (Torey) Krug goal kind of squeezed through him but it’s a slot shot, I mean it’s a good shot. We’ve seen Torey score from there before. Other than that, I didn’t think he had much of a chance on any of the other ones.”

The Bruins return to the ice Thursday against the Ottawa Senators. Goaltending plans have not been revealed.
