Lucas Giolito took another step in his rehab process for the Red Sox on Tuesday night in hopes of his season — and Boston — debut sooner rather than later.

Giolito made the trip to Hartford, Conn., with the Portland Sea Dogs, the Red Sox Double-A affiliate, for his latest rehab start. Giolito had an adventure of a first inning when he allowed three runs on three hits to the Yard Goats at Dunkin’ Park.

His second inning improved with a baseball oddity. After a dropped third strike put a runner on first, the Red Sox starter still struck out the side for four punch-outs in the inning. Giolito finished his night with that inning after 60 pitches with three walks and four strikeouts.

Giolito made his third rehab start as he works back from a hamstring strain, which followed his season-ending elbow surgery from 2024. The Red Sox wait for his return, along with Brayan Bello, after Richard Fitts hit the injured list with a pectoral strain.

Giolito also recently joined Tom Caron and The Boston Globe’s Alex Speier on NESN’s “310 To Left” podcast to share his thought process during his rehab for the Red Sox.
