The Green Bay Packers’ defense has been dealt a serious blow.

Packers linebacker Sam Barrington could miss the rest of the 2015 season with an ankle/foot injury, according to multiple reports.

FOXSports.com’s Alex Marvez was the first to report Tuesday that Barrington suffered a potential season-ending ankle injury. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Michael Cohen each reported that the Packers believe Barrington is done for the season with a foot injury.

Barrington, who initially suffered an ankle injury during the preseason, was listed as questionable going into the Packers’ season opener against the Chicago Bears. The 24-year-old exited Sunday’s game in the second quarter and left Soldier Field in a walking boot.

The news comes at a bad time for the Packers, as they’ll face two elite running backs — Marshawn Lynch of the Seattle Seahawks and Jamaal Charles of the Kansas City Chiefs — over the next two weeks.

Green Bay also is scheduled to face Carlos Hyde and the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4. Hyde, of course, led all NFL running backs with 168 rushing yards and two touchdowns in Week 1.

The Packers’ run defense struggled Sunday against the Bears. Things won’t get any easier now that Barrington, the team’s leading tackler in the playoffs last season, is out for the foreseeable future.
