The Patriots have been busy making moves since the start of free agency, but there are still holes to fill.
The signings of Adrian Wilson, Aqib Talib and Kyle Arrington helped shore up the secondary, but now the attention turns to the suddenly depleted wide receiving corps.
Wes Welker left for greener pastures in Denver and Brandon Lloyd was sent packing, meaning the Patriots will have two new leading receivers when they hit the field this fall.
Danny Amendola is expected to be one of those guys. The other is still unknown. Although, Steelers restricted free agent Emmanuel Sanders, who drew some interest from the Pats early in free agency, does seem to make the most sense.
Sanders, who just celebrated his 26th birthday, is a quick, young receiver with the skills to be an effective receiver both in the slot and on the outside. That sort of versatility, matched with his excellent speed, would make him a great fit for Tom Brady in New England’s passing attack. But in order to pry Sanders away from Pittsburgh, the Pats will need to fork over a third-round pick, which might be a little too rich for their blood.
