NESN Red Sox Podcast: Early Thoughts, Predictions For 2018 MLB Season

by Ricky Doyle

Apr 4, 2018

The Boston Red Sox couldn’t have asked for a more favorable schedule to begin the 2018 Major League Baseball season, starting things off in Florida with four games against the Tampa Bay Rays followed by a quick two-game series against the Miami Marlins.

Both the Rays and the Marlins stink, you see, and the Red Sox didn’t need to travel far after spending spring training in Fort Myers. The result: The Red Sox return to Boston for Thursday’s home opener at Fenway Park with a 5-1 record — the only loss coming on Opening Day after an epic bullpen collapse.

All told, it’s a very small sample size, so there’s also so much one can deduce from the Red Sox’s first two series. But that didn’t stop NESN.com’s Ricky Doyle and Dakota Randall from giving their early impressions Tuesday ahead of Boston’s series finale against Miami.

In fact, with it being so early in the season, Ricky and Dakota took a bigger picture approach, offering predictions and suggestions for which players have the most to prove in 2018. They also caught up with NESN’s Tom Caron for a unique perspective on Red Sox manager Alex Cora.
