The 29-year-old recently admitted in an interview with Real Sports on HBO that she is a virgin, waiting until marriage to have sex, and that it’s been awfully difficult to remain that way at times.
“It’s just something, a gift that I want to give to my husband,” she told HBO. “But please understand this journey has been hard. If there’s virgins out there, I just want to let them know, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. Harder than training for the Olympics, harder than graduating from college, has been to stay a virgin before marriage.”
Jones will be looking for a measure of redemption at the London Olympics. Although she was favored to win the 100 m event during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, she tripped and fell while finishing seventh. It’s been four long years between chances for a gold medal, but it seems that she’s willing to wait.
