The New York Yankees can buy pretty much anyone — just not the reigning American League Cy Young award winner.
David Price told FOX Sports’ Jon Paul Morosi that some teams’ rules would keep him from signing with them.
“If I ever did hit that free-agent market, there would be teams I wouldn’t sign with simply because of the stuff that I’ve heard — every rule they have,” he said.
When Morosi mentioned that the Yankees would require Price to shave his beard, Price didn’t hold back his thoughts.
“I wouldn’t stay there very long then,” he said. “I wouldn’t sign a long-term deal there. Those rules, that’s old-school baseball. I was born in ’85. That’s not for me. That’s not something I want to be a part of.”
Price might have to alter his standards, whether he was born in 1985 or not. Surely, the Yankees will be among the highest bidders for Price if he makes it to free agency in 2014. The Rays have a tough decision to make about whether they should trade Price before he becomes a free agent, or whether they can try to sign him with their limited finances.
