Ravens’ Cary Williams Shoves Official During First-Half Skirmish in Super Bowl (Video)

The first half of the Super Bowl was a bit of a heated affair, and that tension nearly boiled over into an all-out brawl late in the second quarter.

Following an interception by Ravens safety Ed Reed, players from both teams remained engaged after the whistle. In the ensuing scrum, Baltimore cornerback Cary Williams had his helmet ripped off by San Francisco’s Bruce Miller and, rather than pushing back the Niners fullback, Williams shoved an official who was trying to break up the ruckus.

Putting hands on a referee is usually an ejectable offense, but Williams (No. 29 in white) was not flagged, with referee Jerome Boger instead assessing offsetting unsportsmanlike conduct to both teams.
