Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak Confirms Dwight Howard Will Not Re-Sign With Team

The circus is over, for real now.

Reports surfaced Friday afternoon that Dwight Howard had decided to sign with the Houston Rockets. When it all seemed said and done, ESPN’s Chris Broussard reported that the center was having second thoughts and was “50/50″ on whether or not he would stay in Los Angeles long-term. Now, there is direct confirmation that the 27-year-old will indeed not be signing with the Lakers.

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak released a statement saying that Howard has decided to move on.

“We have been informed of Dwight’s decision to not return to the Lakers. Naturally we’re disappointed.” Kupchak said. “However, we will now move forward in a different direction with the future of the franchise and, as always, will do our best to build the best team possible, one our great Lakers fans will be proud to support.”

Shortly after the release of the Lakers statement, Howard changed his Twitter avatar to himself in a Rockets jersey.

It’s official.
