The Baltimore Orioles are 4.5 games out of the second wild card spot and needed a miracle. What they got was pretty much the opposite.
In the seventh inning of Monday’s game against the Rays, Manny Machado was running out an infield hit when he stepped awkwardly on the corner of the first base bag. Machado’s left knee buckled and he fell to the ground.
After laying on the ground in pain for several minutes, the third baseman’s left leg was immobilized and he was carried off the field on a stretcher, according to the Baltimore Sun.
The 21-year-old phenom played in 156 games for the O’s this season and every game since being recalled from the minors in August.
