While some MLB teams and players have been less than thrilled with the new replay system, the Pittsburgh Pirates weren’t complaining about it Tuesday night when they earned a walk-off win over the San Francisco Giants on a challenge.
Buccos left fielder Starling Marte knocked a triple off the right field wall at PNC Park with the score tied at one run apiece in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs. An errant throw got past Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval, and Marte hurried home.
The umpire called Marte out sliding into home, but on second look, it was clear that his right hand touched the plate before Giants catcher Buster Posey’s tag.
