The Chargers entered their matchup with the Buffalo Bills already down one running back as Ryan Mathews recovers from an MCL sprain. Woodhead, a former New England Patriot, has managed just 38 yards on 15 carries this season.

After Woodhead left the game, quarterback Philip Rivers hooked up with Eddie Royal on a 3-yard touchdown pass to put San Diego up 7-0.

UPDATE (7:15 p.m.): Woodhead suffered a severe high ankle sprain, fractured his fibula and likely will require season-ending surgery, sources told FOX Sports’ Alex Marvez.
