Los Angeles was the runner-up for the event, which has been held in New York since 1965. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said 12 cities were interested in the draft.

The last city to host the NFL draft other than New York was Chicago, which did it in 1964 and has been the event’s home on six different occasions.

The NFL moved the draft one week earlier from last year, preventing it from falling on the same weekend as Mother’s Day. The league also discussed making the draft a four-day event but ultimately chose to keep it at three days, with the first round being in prime time on Day 1.

UPDATE (6:09 p.m.): The Chicago Bears officially announced that the Windy City will host the 2015 NFL Draft at Roosevelt University.
