Former San Antonio Mayor To Pitch Alamo City To Oakland Raiders Owner

raidersThe name “San Antonio Raiders” doesn’t sound that crazy anymore.

The former mayor of the Alamo City, Henry Cisneros, will meet with Mark Davis and other Oakland Raiders officials on Friday to discuss the possibility of relocating the franchise to south Texas.

Cisneros and Davis talked four months ago, along with San Antonio Spurs owner Peter Holt and former Minnesota Vikings owner Red McCombs, about relocation if the Raiders fail to get out of the antiquated O.co Coliseum in Oakland.

The Raiders’ lease expires after the 2014 season, and at that point, they theoretically could move anywhere. That said, three-quarters of the NFL’s owners would have to approve the proposed move.

Raiders officials already approve of the Alamadome and said it is NFL-ready.

Standing in San Antonio’s way of landing an NFL team is the possibility that the Raiders will get a new stadium in Oakland, plus other relocation options like Los Angeles, the franchise’s former home.
