NFL’s Unpredictable Nature Can Make Early Season Hot Takes Look Silly

That seems like a simple premise. Things change over time, especially in professional sports. Yet that’s something fans and media — particularly in the NFL — often forget.

Former NFL linebacker Matt Chatham has seen it from both sides. He has been in an NFL locker room riding the waves of momentum through a 16-game season and the playoffs. Now he’s now a member of the media, someone called upon to give his take on what’s happening in the league.

“Bill Belichick made a habit of reminding our teams to stop trying to know the unknowable,” Chatham wrote Monday on FootballByFootball.com. “It made us better.  I have a sneaky feeling it would also improve the way we digest the world’s greatest game.  But that may just be me.”
