Andrew MillerThe Toronto Blue Jays continue to poke the fire.

The Blue Jays are “very aggressive” in their pursuit of free-agent reliever Andrew Miller, a source with a competing team told Sportsnet.ca’s Jeff Blair on Monday.

Toronto reportedly agreed to a five-year, $82 million contract with catcher Russell Martin on Monday. The Jays also remain interested in free-agent starter Jon Lester, multiple major league sources told WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford.

Miller already met with the Blue Jays, Sportsnet.ca’s Ben Nicholson-Smith reported last week, citing a source. CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman reported last week that Miller has drawn interest from 22 teams in free agency, so there’s certainly no shortage of suitors for the left-hander.

Miller, who reportedly is seeking at least a four-year contract on the open market, is coming off an impressive 2014 season with the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles. He posted a 2.02 ERA and struck out 103 batters in 73 regular-season appearances spanning 62 1/3 innings.

Miller has been excellent since converting into a full-time reliever with Boston in 2012. The 29-year-old might even land a closer’s role if he signs with Toronto, as incumbent closer Casey Janssen could depart in free agency.
