Jaime Penedo discovered a fact of life Sunday: What A.J. Soares giveth, he can taketh away.

Soares and Penedo were involved in perhaps the funniest moment of MLS Cup 2014 when the New England Revoution defender helped the apparently injured Los Angeles Galaxy goalkeeper to his feet before pushing him back down in disgust.

The Revolution were trailing 2-1 with less than two minutes remaining in extra time. Soares had little patience for Penedo’s attempts to slow down the game, as he desperately was trying to score the game-tying goal.

Shortly thereafter, the referee blew the final whistle, and the Galaxy celebrated their third MLS Cup title in four years (and record fifth in their history).

The push on Penedo could be one of Soares’ last acts as a Revolution player. Soares, 26, has been a Revolution starter since they drafted him out of the Universty of California in 2011, but his contract expires at the end of December. Soares and the Revolution could soon part ways, according to Fox Soccer’s Kyle McCarthy and KICK TV’s Jimmy Conrad.
