Uh, Patrick Kaleta, you’re doing that whole fighting thing wrong.

The Buffalo Sabres forward dropped the gloves with Ottawa Senators defenseman Jared Cowen late in the first period Monday night, but it wasn’t your average bout. Kaleta displayed a rather unorthodox game plan as he proceeded to punch himself — yes, himself — in the side of the head before winding up and taking a swing at Cowen.

If that’s Kaleta’s way of motivating himself, that’s a really painful route to take.

But that wasn’t even the worst part of Kaleta’s night. He and Cowen both crashed hard into the end boards during the third period, with Kaleta taking the brunt of the impact. Kaleta had to be helped off the ice before he headed straight to the dressing room.

Rough, rough night for one Patrick Kaleta.
