Brett Favre To Return To Green Bay, Lambeau Field For Number Retirement

At some point next season, Brett Favre will be back on the grass at Lambeau Field.

The Green Bay Packers announced in August that they would retire the former quarterback’s No. 4 at his Packers Hall of Fame induction ceremony on July 18. He’ll also be in the house during the season to see his number unveiled at the stadium, but there’s no set date yet.

Favre spent 16 years with Green Bay and was beloved there. However, the relationship soured when he flip-flopped with his decision to retire in 2008, and the Packers traded him to the New York Jets. Things didn’t get much better when he signed with the division rival Minnesota Vikings the next year, either.

But tensions have since relaxed, and Favre said on his website that he’s “truly looking forward to” making a return to his old stomping grounds.

“It was a tremendous honor to play 16 years for the Green Bay Packers,” Favre said, per ESPN. “Now to have my name placed among others such as (Bart) Starr, (Paul) Hornung, (Jerry) Kramer, (Jim) Taylor, (Curly) Lambeau, (Ray) Nitschke, (Vince) Lombardi, (Willie) Davis, (Reggie) White and (Don) Hutson is a special honor that I share with all of my teammates and coaches, and that would not have been possible but for the foresight of Ron Wolf, the greatest (general manager) in the history of the NFL.”
