Akeem Ayers’ brief tenure with the New England Patriots was a successful one.

The veteran linebacker recorded four sacks and an interception in nine games, won a Super Bowl and helped boost his free-agent stock.

Once an afterthought with the Tennessee Titans, Ayers signed with the St. Louis Rams, the team announced Thursday night. Ayers signed on for two years, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Jim Thomas reported Thursday.

The Patriots sent their sixth-round pick to the Titans before the 2014 trade deadline for Ayers and Tennessee’s seventh-round draft pick.

Ayers reunites with linebackers coach Frank Bush, who coached him in his first two seasons with the Titans. Rams defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was an assistant with the Titans in 2013.

It was unlikely that Ayers would return to the Patriots once they signed situational pass rusher Jabaal Sheard on Wednesday night.
