Tony Romo: Cowboys Will Win Super Bowl Next Year, Dethrone Patriots

The New England Patriots won’t be making another trip to the White House next spring. According to Tony Romo, that is.

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback recently received the Nancy Lieberman Lifetime Achievement Award at a gala in Dallas and took to the podium to give a speech. Things went well for about 10 minutes, as Romo expressed his gratitude for those who have supported him during his NFL journey.

As he wrapped up his speech, though, Romo couldn’t resist slipping in a prediction.

“This award is very meaningful to me, mostly because I get to be associated with this and to be associated with Nancy,” Romo said, via the Dallas Morning News. “It’s incredible and I really appreciate you, and we’re going to win a Super Bowl next year. Thank you.”

Tony Romo wants the ball, and he’s going to score.

Of course, Romo wasn’t calling anyone out as much as making a lighthearted remark in a non-football setting at an award banquet. But Romo never has been one to avoid the spotlight, and his comment certainly won’t go unnoticed, especially given Dallas’ recent playoff struggles.

The Cowboys went 12-4 last season — their best record since 2007 — but were bounced by the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round. Dallas has lost eight of its last 11 postseason games and hasn’t advanced past the Divisional Round since it won the 1995 Super Bowl.

But hey, maybe Romo’s words will inspire his team to bring a title back to Dallas, and we’re guessing he wouldn’t mind adding a Lombardi Trophy to his award collection.
