10:35 a.m.: If you ask Kim Hughes, LaMarcus Aldridge’s tenure with Portland already is a thing of the past.

The Trail Blazers assistant coach let slip in an interview with an Indiana TV station Tuesday that Aldridge is all but gone.

“We didn’t publicize it, but we lost LaMarcus Aldridge,” Hughes said, via The Oregonian. “It hasn’t been declared yet, but I’m sure he won’t come back. We will go young.”

Hughes obviously doesn’t work in the front office, so anything still can happen. But all signs point to Aldridge donning a new jersey come next season.

9:52 a.m.: Doc Rivers is reuniting with Paul Pierce, but the Los Angeles Clippers coach might not have his son on the team next season, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.

9 a.m. ET: Well, that was eventful.

The NBA’s free agency period began in earnest Wednesday, as a host of big names agreed to massive deals throughout the day. Several players like Anthony Davis and Kevin Love earned huge paydays by staying put, but there still are plenty of stars on the market — most notably LaMarcus Aldridge and Rajon Rondo — who could make a splash by signing elsewhere.

Teams can’t officially sign free agents until July 9, but that shouldn’t stop the rumors and reports from continuing to fly Thursday. It can be a lot to handle, but we’ve got you covered, so keep it locked on our live free agency tracker for all the latest news.
