Liverpool will present Jurgen Klopp to fans at Anfield with a series of brush strokes that embody what he brings to the club.
An artist’s rendition of Klopp’s face appears on the cover of Liverpool’s official gameday program ahead of Thursday’s UEFA Europa League game against Rubin Kazan. Klopp’s appearance on “This is Anfield” bears a striking resemblance to the iconic “Hope” portrait United States President Barack Obama used during his first presidential campaign.
We don’t think Shepard Fairey designed the Klopp cover, as he did the Obama poster, but he might be flattered by Liverpool’s well-played imitation.
Klopp asked Tuesday in his pregame press conference for fans to create an electric atmosphere at Anfield. He reiterated the message inside the gameday souvenir in his inaugural program notes.
“This is my first time as manager of Liverpool for a game at Anfield and it is something that will be very important for me and my staff,” Klopp wrote, according to LiverpoolFC.com. “You (fans) have a vital role to play in what we are looking to achieve. You are a very special group of supporters and the atmosphere you create is unique.
“I ask that you believe in this team and believe that together we can achieve great things. We must all stay together and look to enjoy the experience of following such a great club.
“Football should be about joy and fun and that must be reflected throughout the entire organisation. The team will go out and battle for you and look to represent you, the club and the city in how we approach our work. this is my commitment.”
