Daniel Sturridge’s optimism appears to be boundless, as he nears his latest comeback.

Sturridge declared Wednesday he’s “fit and ready” to feature for Liverpool after recovering from a knee injury, according to The Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce. Sturridge has trained outdoors this week, and the 26-year-old striker could be in contention to play in Saturday’s Premier League game against Manchester City.

“I’m fit and ready to go, and it’s going to be a great time for me,” Sturridge told Pearce.

Sturridge suffered an knee injury in early October during one of Liverpool’s practice sessions. The latest ailment has forced Sturridge to miss all seven games Liverpool has played under new manager Jurgen Klopp, but he looks forward to his first chance to show the German what he can do.

“It’s been great under the new manager,” Sturridge said. “I’ve been back training for the past couple of days, and I was training when he first arrived.

“It’s an exciting time to be at the club, and I’m enjoying working with him and the style of football. It’s important for us to understand what he wants us to do.”

Klopp hasn’t publicly revealed his plans for Sturridge. Klopp could either handle Sturridge with care or throw him straight into the fray. We guess Christian Benteke or Roberto Firmino likely will start at striker against Manchester City, limiting Sturridge to a substitutes’ role.

And that wouldn’t be a bad thing for the oft-injured, but ever-optimistic, Sturridge.
