There’s a Ryan family union about to go down in Buffalo.

The Buffalo Bills hired former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan as an assistant head coach/defense, the team announced Sunday night. Ryan, of course, is the twin brother of Bills head coach Rex Ryan.

“I’m excited to have Rob join our staff and I think he will be a great asset for our defense. He has a tremendous working knowledge of our schemes and I look forward to his input,” Rex Ryan said in a statement released by the team. “On a personal note, it’s been a number of years since we have worked together and so we are both really looking forward to this opportunity.”

Rob was fired in November in his third season with the Saints, as New Orleans’ defense was, at times, among one of the worst in the NFL. There’s also plenty of work to be done in Buffalo. The Bills struggled defensively last season, giving up the ninth-most yards per play (5.6) during the 2015 season.

There reportedly be plenty of pressure on the Ryan brothers, as The Buffalo News reported last week that Bills owner Terry Pegula has turned up the pressure on Rex Ryan, reportedly telling him if there aren’t improvements in 2016, Ryan’s job could be in jeopardy. The Bills went 8-8 and missed the playoffs.
