The Tampa Bay Buccaneers reportedly are handing out a major promotion.

The Buccaneers are hiring offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter as their new head coach, according to multiple reports. Koetter, who interviewed for the job Tuesday, also served as offensive coordinator of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons before joining the Bucs this season.

Tampa Bay fired head coach Lovie Smith last week after a 6-10 season. Smith led the Bucs to an 8-24 record in his two seasons at the helm.

The Buccaneers are coming off a disappointing season from a record standpoint, but rookie quarterback Jameis Winston flashed his potential and running back Doug Martin enjoyed a nice bounce-back campaign. Hiring from within gives the Bucs some continuity going into next season.
