Only a minor miracle can prevent Arsenal from exiting the UEFA Champions League in the Round of 16 for the sixth consecutive season and end FC Barcelona’s defense of its European crown.
Barcelona hosts Arsenal on Wednesday at Camp Nou in the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 series. Barcelona has a 2-0 lead on aggregate, thanks to its Feb. 23 win over the Gunners, and most expect the reigning champions to press on in the competition.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger stressed defensive solidity as a key for his team. Center back Laurent Koscielny is expected to play, having recovered from a calf injury.
Barcelona defender Gerard Pique is suspended for the game. Jeremy Mathieu is expected to replace him as Javier Mascherano’s partner in central defense.
Barcelona is enjoying an eight-game winning streak and is unbeaten in a Spanish-record 37 games in all competitions. Arsenal could end those streaks, but a moral victory might not be enough to dethrone Barcelona.
