The Stanley Cup playoffs are a brutal grind, one that gets even more difficult the farther you advance. But for every team except for one, it eventually comes to an end.

For some teams, the end comes hard and fast. That was the case for the St. Louis Blues, who lost Game 6 of the Western Conference finals to the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday night, ending their season.

The Blues, like all playoff teams, had high hopes. But after eliminating the defending champion Chicago Blackhawks, the Blues had a little extra momentum in their quest to deliver a Stanley Cup to St. Louis for the first time. And in the end, it wasn’t meant to be.

In the moments after the Blues’ season came to an end, David Backes met with the media and personified the heartbreak that comes with losing in the playoffs. His emotion tells the whole story.

Losing stinks. What else can you even say?
