Kevin Durant Says He Doesn’t Plan On Re-Entering NBA Free Agency Next Summer

The Golden State Warriors won the Kevin Durant sweepstakes earlier this week, beating out a slew of other suitors — including the Boston Celtics and Durant’s former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder — all hoping to sign the former NBA MVP.

Durant’s contract with the Warriors reportedly is a two-year deal with a second-year player option, meaning we very well could see the 27-year-old superstar hit free agency again next summer.

Speaking Thursday at his introductory news conference, however, Durant said another foray into the open market is not in his plans.

Of course, next summer is a long ways away. A whole lot can happen over the course of an 82-game NBA season. Add to that the fact that Durant is just a few days removed from leaving the city he called home for the last decade, and it’s understandable that going through this whole recruitment process again doesn’t sound particularly appealing to him at the moment.

Plus, this was his first day with his new team. What else was he going to say? “Uh, yeah, I might want to leave these guys a year from now”? No way.

So, moral of the story: Until decision time comes, take everything Durant — and any other NBA player, for that matter — says with a heavy grain of salt.
