For Denver Broncos fans, Brock Osweiler will never be the “one that got away.”
The Houston Texans quarterback made a bizarrely comical blooper on Monday in his team’s Week 7 loss to the Broncos.
Trailing 21-7 in the fourth quarter, Osweiler dropped back to throw the ball, but it somehow slipped from his grasp and floated forward. Most players seemed to assume Osweiler’s pass was incomplete, but Denver’s Chris Harris recovered the still-live ball, and referees ruled the play a fumble — one we judge to be the worst of 2016.
“They say every quarterback is going to experience it at some point, where the ball just flies out of your hand, and unfortunately I got to experience it tonight,” Osweiler said, per USA TODAY’s Lindsay H. Jones. “The refs made the call that they made. It seemed like the football went forward, but at the end of the day, the refs are out there for a reason. They made a call and that’s what we have to live with.”
Osweiler left the Broncos for Houston last March, signing a four-year, $72 million contract.
He made his grand return to Denver as the Texans’ starter and showed his former team what they’re not really missing. He completed 22 of 41 passes for just 131 yards with no touchdowns in the 27-9 loss.
