Before getting drafted by the Celtics, Reggie Lewis starred at Northeastern University, where he played under then-coach Jim Calhoun. In 1984, he led the Huskies to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where he went 15-for-17 from the floor and came within seconds of reaching the Sweet 16 before losing at the buzzer to VCU. He went on to become a three-time America East Player of the Year, set the Northeastern scoring record (2,708 points) and later had his No. 35 retired in the Matthews Arena rafters.
