Threatening to sit out the mandatory training camp starting July 30, Jets running back Leon Washington told Players Voice that he hopes the two sides get something worked out and that he wants to remain a Jet.
"This is where I want to be," Washington said to the Players Voice. "You look at my career — I believe that I did all the things I had to do on and off the field to have this contract extension."
Last season, Washington had 448 yards on 76 rushes, 355 yards on 47 receptions and 1,231 kickoff return yards in all 16 games played.
"It's steady going," Washington said in an interview on Players Voice. "The contract process is one that takes a lot of time. You have to trust in management, [agent] Alvin Keels and believe that he will go out and do a good job for me. It's an ongoing process. The good thing is that the Jets want to get something done and I am honored to be in that situation, so I look forward to it."
