Lowrie Recalled, Buchholz Sent Down As expected, the Red Sox announced Saturday that shortstop Jed Lowrie has been recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Coming off wrist surgery, Lowrie has played 15 rehab games between Pawtucket, Portland and Lowell, where he went a combined 11-for-50 (.220 BA) with five doubles, five RBIs and six runs. The 25-year-old appeared in just five contests with Boston earlier this season before landing on the disabled list on April 13 with a left wrist sprain. In 86 major league games, Lowrie owns a .245 batting average with two homers and 46 RBIs.

To make room for Lowrie, the club optioned Clay Buchholz back to Pawtucket. The righty was sent down just hours after making his first start of the season on Friday night in Toronto. Buchholz pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed just one run on four hits and three walks while striking out three batters en route to the 4-1 win over the Jays.

Buchholz has gone 7-2 in Pawtucket this season with a 2.36 ERA in 16 starts.
