The Mets haven't been able to catch a break all season, and now their starting rotation is down to just one pitcher from the original opening day roster.

With the disappointing news that staff ace Johan Santana would miss the rest of the season with bone chips in his left arm, the news of season-ending knee surgery for Oliver Perez only made matters worse.

Perez's injury was announced as patella tendon tendinosis after the lefty was examined by Dr. David Altcheck at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. The surgery will repair a tendon in his right knee.

Perez signed a three-year deal worth $36 million prior to the season. He went 3-4 with a 6.82 ERA in 14 starts before being shut down for the season.
