Ottawa winger Chris Neil participated in a local fundraiser for the Wounded Warriors Fund on Saturday with other local celebrities.

According to the Daily Observer, the event — which included a celebrity barbecue, a silent auction and free ATV rides — was part of a celebration for George's Marine and Sports, marking its 40th year of business.

Neil signed autographs for fans before being the first to go down in the dunk tank. Participants used hockey pucks to try to sink him instead of the traditional baseballs.

Neil told the Daily Observer he is aware and supportive of Jeff Wilcox's dedication to the welfare of the community as the owner of George's Marine and Sports.

"We [the Senators] do try to get out as much as we can," he told the Web site. "That's what keeps us going — the fans."

Wilcox is grateful for the support of one of the region's brightest hockey stars.

"Not every hockey player does this," he said. "Chris has always been a great supporter for the community."

With training camp set to kick off in just a couple of weeks, Neil is enjoying what's left of the break before focusing on his next task at hand: winning hockey games.

"We have a group of guys who can take us to the finals and we want to go back there," he said. "No question."

The 30-year-old played in 60 games for the Senators in 2008-09 and registered three goals and seven assists.
