Recently dispatched Maple Leaf Justin Pogge isn't thrilled at the prospect of leaving Toronto, but he's ready to make a new start in Anaheim.

The 22-year-old netminder, who played in seven games for Toronto in 2008-09 and went 1-4-1, was traded to the Ducks earlier this week after essentially failing to live up to the hype that surrounded him throughout his junior career with the Marlies. In 2007-08, Pogge played in 41 games for Toronto's AHL affiliate, posting a 26-10 record with a 2.34 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage.

Pogge told thestar.com he wishes he could've gotten another opportunity to prove himself in Toronto, but the move to Anaheim will still be a good experience.

"It was a little bittersweet, but for the most part I'm really excited to have a new situation and a fresh start," he told the Web site. "I think everyone needs a fresh start every once in a while when things aren't going the best. It's just a new situation."

In response to criticism that the Maple Leafs hindered his progress by rushing him into the league, Pogge blamed no one but himself for his struggles.

"I don't think I was rushed into the NHL," he said. "I put in my time in the minors and got a chance. I would have liked to stay up there a little bit longer but that's how life goes. I'm looking forward to my next chance at the NHL and hoping to prove myself."

Just like in Toronto, Pogge will have plenty to prove before he earns playing time in Anaheim. He will be the third stringer behind Jonas Hiller and Jean-Sebastien Giguere. Fighting for a spot, however, is something he's prepared to do.

"I've just got to go in with a mindset that I want to play for a spot," he said, "and wherever I end up, I end up."
