Yankees’ Mitre Remains in Rotation, For Now

Sergio Mitre has been far from good in his brief time in the Yankees rotation, but due to the club's recent run of success, the right-hander has been able to hold down his job as the No. 5 starter.

Mitre is 1-1 with a 7.04 ERA in five starts with no quality starts to his name. But because the Yankees have won three of his five starts with their high-powered offense, Joe Girardi feels safe enough with Mitre at the back of the rotation.

"If I'm not mistaken, he's had four starts and we've won three of those games," Girardi told MLB.com before Mitre's loss to the Blue Jays on Monday. "That's not bad."

Mitre's spot is not guaranteed in the coming weeks with the Yankees adding Chad Gaudin from the Padres recently, but for now it looks like Girardi is content with the performances he has gotten from Mitre.

"I can't tell you what's going to happen two weeks from now or a month
from now," Girardi said, "but the expectation is [Mitre] will make his
start, and we will keep these guys on line, for the most part, because I think the extra day of rest helps them down the stretch here when you can do it."
