The marquee event of the Bruins' 2009-10 season is without question their New Year's Day matchup with Philadelphia at Fenway Park. The memorable event of next year could come much earlier in the season.

According to a Boston Globe report, the Bruins are one of six teams that have been approached about opening next season in Europe. Possible sites include Helsinki, Stockholm and Prague. The report cites an unnamed league source.

The concept is not entirely new for the NHL, which has featured games in Europe in recent years. This season, Florida played Chicago in Helsinki while Detroit played St. Louis in Stockholm. According to the report, the Bruins — like the Blackhawks and Red Wings — would be paired up with a team from a nontraditional hockey market.
