The Patriots may not have been able to deliver another Super Bowl to their fans, but they may give something more important to some of their younger supporters — a college education.

Twenty-eight local students will receive a total of $60,000 in scholarship money from the Pats this spring as part of their 2010 New England Write On Scholarship contest. The grand prize of $10,000 will be given to the winner of a creative essay contest about the 2009 Patriots season.

Contestants also will be asked to provide information about their volunteer experiences and  explain why giving back to the community is important for people of all ages.

Through the Write On Scholarship, the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation has donated nearly $400,000 the past four years. In addition to the grand prize, this years’ runner-up will receive $7,500, honorable mention $5,000 and 25 other students will be recognized with a prize of $1,500.

New England residents between 13-18 years old are eligible to enter the contest. The deadline to enter is March 31, 2010.
