Former A's and Cardinals pitcher Mark Mulder coud be calling it a career, according to MLB.com.

Rick Peterson, Mulder's pitching coach with Oakland and now with the Brewers, received a text message on Monday confirming the 32-year-old's decision.

"It doesn't surprise me," Peterson told MLB.com. "He really had to think about whether he wanted to go through this."

However, Mulder's agent Gregg Clifton told Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle that his client has yet to make a decision.

Mulder was the American League Cy Young Award runner-up in 2001 and an All-Star in both 2003 and 2004. He went 103-60 with a 4.18 ERA in parts of nine career years, but a shoulder injury in 2006 proved to be too much to recover from, as he made just 21 combined starts since the 2005 season.
