UNH Pummels Cornell 6-2 in NCAA Hockey Tournament

Just after the men's basketball team's Cinderella story ended, Cornell's men's hockey team suffered a painful blow.

In first-round action of the NCAA Tournament, UNH topped Cornell 6-2 at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y.

Though Cornell lit the lamp first, UNH ended up outsthooting the oppenent 37-26 and scored five unanswered goals before Cornell was able to find the back of the net again.

Tyler Roeszler led off the scoring with just 49 seconds remaining in the first frame, taking a feed from Joe Devin, but from then on, it was all Wildcats. UNH's Bobby Butler scored an unassisted goal to even the score 16:47 into the second period, and Mike Sislo quickly added to it about 30 seconds later, with assists from Greg Burke and Blake Kessel.

Paul Thompson netted the game-winner 2:52 into the third, as Butler tallied his second point of the game with an assist and quickly notched his third point with his second goal of the night four minutes later. Sislo lit the lamp again with 4:46 remaining in regulation, and finally, Cornell's Dan Nicholls scored with help from Riley Nash and Keir Ross to make it 5-2.

Paul Thompson ended the scoring with an unassisted empty-netter with 33 seconds remaining.

Wildcats goaltender Brian Foster made 24 saves on 26 shots, while Cornell's Ben Scrivens had a rough night, stopping 26 of 31 shots.

UNH went 0-for-1 on the power play, while Cornell went 0-for-2.
