At 4-9, Red Sox Off to Worst Start Since 1996 Not only did the Red Sox snap their six-game Patriots' Day winning streak on Monday afternoon at Fenway Park, the club also dug up an abundance of disappointing stats and records for Red Sox Nation to chew at the water cooler on Tuesday.

Here's a few stats the Sox' public relations department unveiled following their 8-2 loss to the Rays:

  • With Monday’s loss, the Red Sox have been swept in a four-game series with the Rays for the first time ever. The last time Boston was swept in a four-game set overall was August 6-9, 2009 by the hands of the Yankees. The Red Sox have not been swept in a four-game series at Fenway Park since losing five (including a make-up game) to the Yankees from August 18-21, 2006.
  • The Sox have now lost five straight games overall and six consecutive at Fenway Park. The six-game home losing streak is the longest for the club since a 12-gamer, June 3-29, 1994.
  • At 4-9, the Red Sox are off to their worst start through the first 13 games of the season since 1996 when the club was 2-11. Boston would go 2-12 through 14 games that year.
  • The club’s 1-6 start at home is their worst since the Red Sox went 1-9 through 10 home games in 1932 (Source: Elias Sports Bureau).
