Goalie Ryan Miller's Vezina Nomination May Be Just the Start BOSTON — After going 41-18-8 this season with a 2.22 goals-against average and .929 save percentage and leading Team USA to silver at the Winter Olympics, Sabres goalie Ryan Miller may have another accolade to add to his resume. On Monday, Miller — along with Phoenix goalie Ilya Bryzgalov and New Jersey netminder Martin Brodeur — was nominated for the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s most outstanding goaltender.

“I’m very honored,” Miller said following the game-day skate at the TD Garden. “It represents a hard-fought season with my teammates. It’s one of those things where if you’re going to be considered a top goaltender, you’ve got to have guys around you who care and work hard to make the plays around you easier.”

Rookie defenseman Tyler Myers, who is also expected to be nominated for some hardware of his own as a Calder Trophy (rookie of the year) candidate, has enjoyed his first NHL season playing in front of Miller, who many think could also get some consideration as a Hart Trophy (MVP) candidate.

“He deserves it, for sure,” Myers said of Miller’s Vezina nomination. “He’s been our best guy the entire year.

“I knew he was good,” the rookie said, “[but] I didn’t quite expect this. It just amazed me the way he was able to play the entire year, staying as consistent as he did, especially with going to the Olympics and not getting that break. When he came back, he was just as good as he was before the break.”
