Is Brett Favre Really Retiring After This Season? Brett Favre announced Wednesday that he is returning to the Minnesota Vikings for his 20th NFL season, and it will be his last. And this time –apparently– he's serious.

Favre is getting as bad as the Boy Who Cried Wolf, but in his case, he's the Quarterback Who Cried Retirement. For several offseasons now, Favre has served as the NFL's proverbial question mark heading into the upcoming year. Will he play or won't he?

On Wednesday, he gave his final answer for 2010-2011, re-joining the Vikings for his second year with the team, likely his last year in the league.

"Twenty years and I am done," Favre announced to reporters. "This is the last year of my contract. It was a tough decision to come back… I will give it one more try with my head held high and regardless how it goes I will go out on top."

Is this really it for Old Gunslinger, or is he pulling our leg before another go-around in the summer of 2011?

Favre told reporters that what brought him back for 2010-11 was the Vikings' team, and the taste of victory that still lingers from the oh-so-close opportunity for another Super Bowl last season.

"As magical a year as it was, all I could think about since New Orleans was that I was so close," Favre said. "Maybe I should give it one more try."

One more try; we've heard that one before. Like when the quarterback returned from his retirement from the Green Bay Packers in 2008, and from the New York Jets in 2009. Favre has been lured from retirement twice, so what would make this time any different?

It would make sense that this is really it. 20 years in the NFL, 41 years old come October, multiple NFL passing records, plus a Super Bowl ring from 1997 with Green Bay. All in all, that's a fantastic career, and it seems like this really could be it for Favre. After this year he'll finally hang up the cleats and officially retire.

Hey, third time's the charm, right?
