Josh Beckett and four other Red Sox players were fined undisclosed amounts for their actions during the team's bench-clearing incident with the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night at Fenway Park.

The announcement was made Thursday by Major League Baseball vice president of on-field operations Bob Watson.

Along with Beckett, Mike Cameron, Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis were each slapped with a fine for coming onto the field while on the disabled list, a violation of major league rules.

Indians third base coach Steve Smith, who drew the wrath of Boston manager Terry Francona during the incident, was suspended for two games. Cleveland reliever Jensen Lewis, whose pitch at Adrian Beltre in the bottom of the eighth inning sparked the near-brawl, was also fined.

Beckett hit two Indians hitters early in the game. In an apparent attempt to retaliate, Cleveland pitchers threw a handful of pitches at Red Sox batters, including Beltre and David Ortiz.

After Lewis uncorked an offering at Beltre that was a clear attempt to hit him, the benches emptied. Beckett was among the most irate, at one point spiking a batting helmet to the ground while being restrained.

The dust settled after a minute or so, but players rushed back onto the field when Francona and Boston pitching coach John Farrell got into it with Smith.

No punches were thrown by either side.
