The Red Sox continued adding to their expanded roster Sunday by selecting right-hander Robert Coello to the major league roster from Triple-A Pawtucket.

The 25-year-old Coello went 7-6 with a 3.86 ERA in 32 games (13 starts) between Pawtucket and Double-A Portland. He has struck out 130 men in 107 1/3 innings and held opponents to a .192 average while with the PawSox.

Originally drafted by Cincinnati as a catcher, he was converted to a pitcher in 2007 while in the Angels' organization. The New Jersey native spent 2008 in the independent Golden Baseball League before being signed by the Red Sox.

Boston manager Terry Francona agreed that Coello certainly took a different route to the majors but that there are "probably innings for him here." Coello has a major league fastball but is still refining his secondary pitches, according to Francona.
