Anfield, the club’s stadium in the district of Anfield, in Liverpool, England, was built in 1884 and has been the home to Liverpool FC since they were formed in 1892 as a result of the departure of original tenants Everton FC.
Original plans to replace Anfield, which currently has a total capacity of 45,276, have been stalled for almost a decade. The original proposed capacity for the new stadium was 55,000, but it was later revised to 61,000, with 1,000 seats given for segregation between home and away fans.
As long as Liverpool is playing at the site of the new Anfield in eight years, it will be one of England’s 2018 World Cup venues.
