Sometimes, NFL players are fined and it catches them by surprise. There's absolutely no way Brandon Meriweather was stunned when he got some mail on Tuesday.

The Patriots' safety was fined $50,000 for two helmet-to-helmet hit on Ravens tight end Todd Heap on Sunday, the league has announced. Despite speculation, Meriweather will not be suspended.

Such a fine is a huge hit for Meriweather, who's only making $550,000 in base salary this season.

The league also announced that Steelers linebacker James Harrison has been fined $75,000 and Falcons cornerback Dunta Robinson has also been fined $50,000.
